After the
release of JoomGallery 1.0.0 Stable, we publish a release candidate of JG 1.5
today.
In addition
to many small fixes there were three major changes:
Firstly,
the gallery uses the Joomla!'s file system now (thus also the FTP-Layer if
activated). So many errors caused by missing permissions will hopefully be
avoided. Furthermore,
the complete configuration is saved in the database from now on. Therefore the
config file becomes unnecessary, from which we expect that it will prevent
errors at saving the configuration.
Another
mentionable change is the introduction of the .ini files relating to the
language output. Thus it's now possible to install a new language simply by
using the Joomla! installer. You won't have to upload the files per FTP
anymore.
In the same
way you are now able to update the gallery by using an update component. All
you have to do is to install this component, every update and replacement
procedure is executed automatically. Please ensure that the update was
successfully before you continue to use the gallery (please consider a backup
before getting started, too). This update possibility is not able to update JoomGallery 1.0.0 to JoomGallery 1.5. Such an update will be provided by us once the JG 1.5 reaches the 'stable' status.
The
automatic search for available updates is also introduced with this version. An
RSS file provided on JoomGallery.net, which will always contain the current version
numbers of JoomGallery and its extensions, is read by the gallery every time you
open the admin panel. Together with the update component it's even possible to
start prospective updates by one single mouse click. You are naturally able to
deactivate the update checker completely. This
feature is also accompanied by a new layout of the admin panel, which is now
hopefully more clearly arranged and maybe more attractive, too. There you can
be informed about news on our site with the help of the feed module as well.
Goodbye
Lightbox! Unfortunately, we have to announce a parting, too. The lightbox is in conflict with the Mootools framework, which is included by Joomla! very often, and some other javascript
codes. Therefore it isn't profitable anymore to continue 'arguing' with it (sorry). Moreover there is only a small optical difference between the slimbox and the lightbox. We intend to integrate another box like them soon.
We hope
that you will go on supporting us by posting bug reports in the forum or in the
bug tracker and now: Have fun with the RC of JoomGallery 1.5. Downloads: JoomGallery 1.5 Update component Language files
