Before concentrating fully on the development of new features for Joomgallery, we decided to make the code lighter and easier to maintain. We recently started to rewrite the gallery to follow the so-called MVC (Model View Controller) structure, which was introduced with Joomla 1.5 move.
This brings many advantages for Joomgallery users. To name just a few, the change will enable you to finally create links to categories and detailed image views directly in the Joomla menu manager, or to use template overriding, and more.
The grain of salt lies in the fact that at present this version of Joomgallery is merely in 'alpha' stage. In NO CASE case it should be used on production sides. To make it turn Stable as quickly as possible, we depend on your support through detailed testing and bug reporting. You can download the JG MVC Alpha version here in the forum.
You'll note that the language output contains some obvious errors. Some constants haven't been translated yet, and the conversion to JText:: sprintf () messes with entire sentences in some places. For example, "number of comments" is missing below the thumbnails, where currently you'll only see the word 'Comments' (or its equivalent in another language). At least the German and English language files should be adapted until Beta or, at the very latest, until the Stable version. Please also note that some JG gallery extensions probably will not function correctly with this version.
Here is a list with the new features that are already integrated in this version.
Have fun, and thanks for testing in advance.
- "Apply" buttons in the backend managers.
- Select multiple images and make simulataneous changes to the images details (description, author etc.) in the Images Manager.
- A dropdown box in the Image Manager to move an image between categories.
- A new option that allows to disable the category descriptions in the Gallery View.
- A new option that allows to disable the category descriptions (subcategories) in the Category View.
- A new option by which content plugins can be applied to all descriptions in the gallery.
- The access level of categories can be changed directly by clicking on at the list in the Category Manager.
- Improved ordering functions in the category manager (as to the list and arrows for moving a category).
- The Modal box as an additional pop up option.
- The bridge option, which had been abandoned already a while ago, was removed from the Configuration Manager.
- The integration of the community components was removed from the Configuration Manager. This will work entirely via plugins from now on.
- 'Show total number of hits' has 4 options now ('no', 'only in header', 'only in footer', 'in header and footer', instead of 'yes' and 'no').

Sounds great. Will we be able to convert from the standard version to this one when it gets further along?
