JComments / JomComment Integration
Written by Patrick Alt
Saturday, 09 May 2009 14:36
Upon request from the community, we created 2 modules that enable you to use external components for comments within Joomagallery, as an alternative to JG's native comment functions.

If you have JComments installed on your website, use the JoomJComments module to extend it's functionality to JoomGallery. JomComment users can use the JoomJomComments module to accomplish the same.

With either module, it is possible to allow comments on categories as well as on individual pictures in JoomGallery. The respective descriptions will tell you how.

Don't forget to deactivate the native comment functions in the configuration manager if you use these modules.

Finally, we also offer a new plugin for JComments/JoomJComments that displays the number of comments near the JoomGallery thumbnails.

Have fun!

JoomGallery 1.5.0 Stable

We are very happy to present the JoomGallery as Stable today. After endless hours of work we are proud to reach this state of development.

With your assistance a lot of bugs in the RC’s could be discovered and fixed. Furthermore the following modifications are made in the Stable.

  • The module positions can be loaded more individual now. More information you will find at documentation soon.

  • The detail view is slightly modified to a compact display. So be not surprised if it looks a little bit 'strange' at first sight.

  • With a new option at the configuration manager it is now possible to show the links to subcategories already in the gallery view.

  • By the stronger integration of the FTP-layer of Joomla! the gallery should now run without restrictions at servers with 'wwwrun'-problem

  • The debug-mode can be activated before starting the upload to get additional information about the upload procedure. Pictures which exceed the memory_limit of the server will not be handled. The debug-mode will be activated and a corresponding error message is shown. Previous successful job steps during the upload will be reversed by a new rollback function.
Everything else you can read in the file 'changelog.php' in the admin folder of the gallery.

The update component is also available for updating JoomGallery 1.0 as promised. After this update the legacy-mode can be deactivated (if there are no more installed components using it). In both cases please do not forget to make a backup before.

For first test we can offer a migration script which can migrate from the PhocaGallery to the JoomGallery. If you need it you can download it in the same way as the language files and install it by the installer. We are planning to offer migration scripts for several kinds of galleries.

With the release of the JG 1.5.0 we also publish a new version of the JoomImages module. With this version you can now use a 'Slide Show'.

Within the next days we will publish further extensions (also new ones). So it is worth to visit our site regularly. With already installed extensions the update checker will inform you about new versions automatically (in case that it is not deactivated).

Because bugs and other problems may arise at any time our forum and the bugtracker at Joomlacode.org are also furthermore at your disposal. We would be pleased to get your feedback after the update you will find a lot of not translated language constantes. Please do not forget to install the actual language file.

Have a nice time with the stable JoomlaGallery native for Joomla 1.5

JoomGallery 1.0.1

While we are actively working on advancing JoomGallery 1.5 from Release Candidate to a stable version recommended for everyone, we are not neglecting the 1.0 branch in the meantime. After the first release of the "stable" 1.0.0 we fixed some bugs and backported some small features from the 1.5 branch. Larger features, however, will only be introduced in version 1.5 or a later release. We recommend any users of JoomGallery 1.0.0 to upgrade to 1.0.1.

Amongst others, we fixed some bugs in the Javascript-Popups and Cooliris, and the comment spam which could occur in some configurations is now prevented. The user panel is now paginated, so there should be no more problems for users with many pictures. We also updated the interface to the state of JG 1.5, so now you can also use all functionality of GalleryTab 4 with JoomGallery 1.0. AS always, you can find a detailed overview of all changes in the changelog in the zip file (administrator/components/com_joomgallery/changelog.php).

To install JoomGallery 1.0 anew, just use the Installation-Zip v1.0.1. To upgrade, you need to replace all JoomGallery files with the corresponding ones from the Update-Zip. Open the configuration manager afterwards to start the upgrade procedure. In any case, we recommend a prior backup of your site (files and database).
